CARTAGENA/LA MANGA – THE NEW VENUE FOR XTERRA SPAIN CHAMPIONSHIPS

It’s official!

XTERRA Spain National Championships 2014 will be hosted by the Cartagena (Murcia) in collaboration with the prestigious golf estate, Club La Manga, situated on the Mediterranean coastline.

This is true XTERRA country! You won’t be disappointed!

Climate:
Cartagena has a semi-arid hot, dry subtropical Mediterranean climate. Fortunately, its location near the ocean moderates the temperatures. Annual rainfall typically does not surpass 300 mm (12 in).

Average Temperatures in May:
Average Maximum: 23 degrees Celsius/73 degrees Fahrenheit
Average Minimum: 13 degrees Celsius /55 degrees Fahrenheit

The Circuits:
The XTERRA Cartagena/La Manga circuit is unique in that it offers the participant a landscape of contrast and diversity. Be warned: the course is tough and technical and will challenge the participant both physically as well mentally.

Swim: 1.500 m starts and finishes in the ocean, consisting of two laps of 750 m each.


Warning: The beach sand is rough, strewn with small stones as you step out of the water!

Water temperatures above 20 degrees Celsius make the use of a wetsuit optional.

Bike circuit: 28km of mountainous trails combining rocky single track with sections of jeep track.


Warning: Rough, dry and rocky terrain. More than 1000 m of climbing!

Trail run: 10 km of mostly forest trail, including a sector of 1.800 year old Roman pavé. More than 430m of climbing!
