ALBERT SOLEY – RACING XTERRA IS A REAL TREAT (with video)

When XTERRA introduced its first event in Cieza, Murcia in 2013, Albert Soley decided to give it a try.

This decision was to be a turning point in his sporting career.

The day of his first XTERRA race exceeded all expectations. Not only did he clinch the title in his age group (25-29) but he also discovered just how much fun racing XTERRA is. This was the start of an exciting journey that included a new sponsorship deal as well as being crowned XTERRA World Champion 2013 in Maui!

However, this was only the beginning of bigger things to come. This year Albert is back as a professional, lining up with the likes of Rubén Ruzafa, Roger Serrano, and Ben Allen (Australia) to compete for the coveted XTERRA Spain Champion as well as the XTERRA World Champion title.

Not bad for a rookie who started racing triathlon only three years ago!

And although the level of competition as a professional has intensified, Albert is determined not to stop having fun while doing what he loves most – racing XTERRA!

His dog, Bruce, the Beagle, is his greatest supporter.

Bruce trains with Albert.

How do you feel about XTERRA now being in Spain?
This is great! XTERRA gives me the opportunity to participate in triathlons even more spectacular than what I could ever have imagined. I consider it a privilege to have two XTERRA events here in Spain. Of course, I will race both XTERRA Spain as well as XTERRA Madrid. XTERRA races are a real treat for lovers of mountain triathlon.

How do you feel about racing as a professional this year?
Having the opportunity to compete at professional level is a great individual challenge. As a professional, I now have the good fortune to be at the finish line with the best athletes. Of course, being around these top guys makes make me try to improve every aspect of my race. I hope that more triathletes will join me in these races.

Hope to see you all soon!

XTERRA ROOKIES – DISASTER STRIKES! (with video)

Llatzer crashed his mountain bike and landed up with a broken collar bone!

Oh no!!

This is sad news all around.

His friend Oscar feels almost too distraught to talk about it.

The two XTERRA rookies were feeling super motivated as they entered their 4th week of training.

By now, they had realized that there's no secret to success.

Success requires hard work and dedication - early rising, consistency, and perseverance.
"But every effort has its reward," says Oscar.

However, they also learned that dreams can turn into a nightmare in a split second by one small miscalculation!

Always seeking for perfection in his technique, Llátzer, pushed even harder on his mountain bike while out training. Sadly, he paid the price for his exuberance when he crashed his bike and broke his collar bone in the process!

While Llàtzer is still waiting for the verdict on his chances of recovering in time to race XTERRA Spain, the two friends try to be philosophical about their misfortune.

“Sometimes there are small setbacks, which in the long run it will make you stronger,” says Llátzer.

BEFORE THE ACCIDENT:

Let’s all give them our support.

They deserve it.

In the meantime, TEAM XTERRA is already thinking about ways to make the race possible for Llátzer.

The Last Word from the Champion:

Why is it important to take nutritional supplements?

My life as a professional athlete is all about training and then to recover as fast as possible.

ROGER SERRANO GOES TO AUSTRALIA ( with Video)

A year ago Roger Serrano approached XTERRA for an opportunity to race XTERRA Spain.

In a passionate email to the management, who was still based in South Africa at the time, he introduced himself and said:

“I am the Spanish Triathlon Cross champion 2012. I want to race XTERRA.”

It turned out that racing XTERRA Spain 2013 was a life changing experience for the talented young athlete from Tarragona.

Now, in two days’ time he is boarding the plane to join Ben Allen, his new XTERRA friend in Australia.

Ben invited Roger to join him on the XTERRA Asia Pacific championships, a dream come true for Roger.

But first, the two friends are going to join forces in racing XTERRA Australia, as friends as well as opponents.

Here, Roger tells us about his new passion for XTERRA.

How did XTERRA change your life?
In every way! It has given me a profession. XTERRA is my job now. It has expanded my horizons.

As a professional, I travel around the world to compete in the different XTERRA races. It is very exciting, but I also feel scared. This will be the first time for me to travel so far outside of Spain. Now I must remember the two most important things: my passport and my bicycle (in a box)!)

How has your training program changed?
Now I am training much harder than what I’ve ever done before.

I did not think that training as a professional will be such hard work. After the first two weeks of my training, I was ready to quit. Every night, my legs were burning from tiredness. My life was only training, eating and sleeping. But after the initial two weeks, I was feeling better. Now, I’m fitter and stronger than ever before. With the help of my coach, I’m totally prepared for the challenges ahead
.

What makes XTERRA different?

You cannot compare XTERRA with triathlon cross or other races. When you race XTERRA, you feel part of a big family. The other competitors are still your friends. In other races, the competitors want to eat you alive. The atmosphere of XTERRA is very different. Your opponent will also stop to help you. This is what makes this race unique.

Also, the XTERRA Spain management has really helped and supported me a lot in my career with opportunities and great advice. To me, this shows that they really care about the athlete more and not just the money.

Will you be back to race XTERRA Spain and XTERRA Madrid?

Of course!  I’m back from the Asia Pacific Tour the beginning of May. I’ll take one week to rest and then start training for XTERRA Spain on the 24th May.

I want to see the athletes from all the regions in Spain to join me in the XTERRA adventure. It will change your life, I promise!
